When it comes to running Google Ads, manufacturers have a lot to think about. What type of campaigns do I want to run? Who will I target? What’s my budget and projected ROAS (return on ad spend)?

All of these questions can make running PPC ads on Google seem like a daunting task. Thankfully, with these 3 tips, you can approach Google Ads with ease.

1. Choose a Campaign Type Based on Your Goals

Google Ads offers an array of different campaign types; each with their own set of pros and cons. However, not every campaign type is going to suit your company and your advertising goals.

For instance, if you’re trying to promote an eBook (in order to attract leads) then a search ad campaign is likely the best route to take. These ads are displayed on Google’s main search engine result pages (typically at the top and bottom) whenever someone types in a search term your campaign is targeting. For these campaigns, extensive keyword research is required to ensure you’re targeting the right search terms to gain the most relevant traffic.

On the other hand, if you’re simply looking to increase brand awareness, then a YouTube ad or display ad campaign would be the ideal way to accomplish your goal. Make a short commercial or testimonial for your company and create ads that play before or during a YouTube video. Or create images that effectively represent your brand and run ads on Google’s Display Network.

2. Know What Your Google Ads Budget Will be Beforehand

Oftentimes, business owners who try to approach Google Ads on their own don’t have a clue when it comes to how much they should spend on their campaigns. However, it’s critical to know this information BEFORE running your campaigns, even if it’s just an informed idea.

This starts with knowing who it is you’re targeting and performing market research to figure out how much other companies in your industry are spending on Google Ads. This will give you insight into what you can expect, depending on the amount you’re willing to dedicate on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis.

3. Track Campaign Performance & Make Adjustments

It’s important to keep a close eye on your campaign(s) to ensure they’re on pace to meet your target ROI and campaign goals. There are plenty of performance tracking tools (free and paid) out there to facilitate this easily.

You can also use Google Ads’ intuitive dashboard, which lets you see key metrics such as:

  • How much your campaigns are spending/have spent
  • How many conversions your campaigns are yielding (clicks, phone calls, inquiries, etc.)
  • How much your spending per click, view, and/or impression.
  • The dates/times your ads see the most activity

…and so much more. All of this data can be pertinent and help you make critical adjustments to campaigns that aren’t meeting your expectations.
